Cultural Studies and Consumption of Culture
Almantas Samalavicius
The author overviews the development of cultural studies in British and American academic contexts and stresses their strong and weak points. He attempts to locate the place of cultural studies in a rather conventional Lithuanian research into the field of culture. The author concludes that Lithuanian scholars who refuse to accept cultural studies as scholarship are reluctant to map the weakness of cultural studies, while popular culture became an industry in the local context.
